Privacy policy
Your notes stay under your control. This policy explains how JotStack and this website handle information.
Effective date: 11 September 2026.
Support and privacy contact: dalecumming@outlook.com. JotStack is provided by NorthBase Ltd.
Who is responsible
JotStack is provided by NorthBase Ltd. This policy covers the JotStack Mac app and jotstack.app. Apple and any cloud-storage provider you choose operate their own services under their own privacy terms.
Your notes and settings
JotStack saves note content, lists, checklists, dates and appearance settings on your Mac. You do not need a JotStack account. The app does not include advertising, tracking analytics or a service that uploads your notes to NorthBase Ltd.
With built-in storage, app data is kept in the app’s local storage. With folder storage, JotStack reads and writes the Markdown and text files in the folder you select, together with hidden metadata for card appearance and app details. It retains permission information so it can reopen that folder. Files you open directly are edited at their selected locations.
If you choose a folder managed by iCloud Drive, Dropbox or another provider, that provider may sync and process your files according to your settings and its terms. JotStack does not operate that sync service. Switching storage modes keeps the built-in notes separate; it does not automatically migrate or erase them.
Imports, exports and backups
Imports read the files you select. Exports and backups go to a location you choose. Ordinary JSON backups, TXT and Markdown files, and Markdown ZIP exports are not encrypted by JotStack. Protect those files and any location where you copy them.
Optional password-protected 7z export protects that exported archive, including its contents and internal filename, with AES-256 encryption. It does not encrypt or remove the original note, built-in store, ordinary backups or other exported copies. Keep your password safe; NorthBase Ltd cannot recover it.
Retention and deletion
Your local notes remain until you remove them. Deleting a note or uninstalling the app does not necessarily remove every copy: restore and migration safety backups, built-in data retained after a storage switch, exported files, cloud-provider history and your Mac’s backups may still contain it.
To remove those copies, also review the app’s retained local data, your selected note folders, exports and backup locations, and any cloud-storage or system backup retention settings. Before removing app data, quit JotStack and make sure you have kept anything you still need. NorthBase Ltd cannot remotely access or delete your local files.
Optional Apple features
The writing assistant uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models model to rewrite selected text. You choose whether to insert the result. It requires a compatible Mac and Apple Intelligence availability; ordinary notes do not depend on it. See Apple’s Foundation Models documentation.
The microphone action invokes macOS Dictation. Its processing and permissions depend on your Mac, language and Apple settings; it is not a promise that every dictation request stays on-device. Read Apple’s Siri, Dictation & Privacy information and manage Dictation in System Settings. Reminder notifications also use macOS permissions.
Trial and purchases in the upcoming release
JotStack is currently coming soon. The upcoming trial and unlock use Apple’s App Store and StoreKit. Apple handles the purchase process and payment information. JotStack reads Apple-verified transaction records on your device to determine trial or purchased access and restore purchases. NorthBase Ltd does not operate a purchase-validation backend or receive your payment-card details through the app. Apple Account and purchase processing are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
This website
The website is delivered through Cloudflare. Serving and protecting requests can involve technical information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, timestamps and browser or device information. Cloudflare’s handling and retention are described in its privacy policy. No advertising pixels or third-party tracking analytics scripts are included in this website. The interactive demo uses temporary browser memory and does not read your real notes.
Links to Apple or other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices.
Support and privacy requests
If you contact NorthBase Ltd, the email address, message and attachments you choose to send are used to respond and investigate your request. Send only the information needed and remove private note content from screenshots or logs. Correspondence may be retained as needed to resolve your request, maintain support records and meet legal obligations.
You may ask about access, correction or deletion of information supplied to us, or object to its use where applicable, using dalecumming@outlook.com. These requests concern information held by NorthBase Ltd; files kept only on your Mac remain under your control. You may also raise a concern with your local data-protection authority.
